Comprised of members between the ages of 8-12, the Universal Language Orchestra will be preforming their experimental compositions at the Community Center of the Sweetwater Summit Regional Park this Friday. The group will use graphic scores they made, highlighting innovative playing techniques on their quirky, invented instruments.

“The Festival will also mark the final performance of the Second Annual UCSD-Spring Valley Intergenerational Jazz Camp, a project for middle schoolers that grew out of the ULO. The students in the jazz camp will play alongside, and also open for, a number of cutting edge improvising musical acts, including members of the Larry Streaty B-3 Four, SmoovBadger, the Molten Lava Eyeball Friends of Jazz, and others TBA,” says Adam Tinkle, who leads the week-long Spring Valley jazz camp [not to be confused with the other UCSD Jazz Camp]. Tinkle is also one of the creators of the Universal Language Orchestra, along with Bonnie Whiting Smith and Joe Marigilio.
Both the Universal Language Orchestra and the jazz camp performers are directed by a team of researchers and artists from UCSD's Department of Music.
