Slightly Stoopid's 7th full-length Top of the World (due August 14 on their own Stoopid Records label) will feature guest players Barrington Levy and Don Carlos of Black Uhuru, Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore, Karl Denson, G. Love, and Dumpstaphunk’s Ian Neville.
Having finished construction on their new San Diego recording studio last year, they've been recording and performing several of the new songs, sometimes accompanied by Karl Denson (Tiny Universe, Greyboy All-Stars), both live and in the studio.
A few new tunes were also debuted during a late 2011 webcast performance Slightly Stoopid & Friends Live At Roberto’s TRI Studios, recorded at Bob Weir’s studio. The Friends broadcast (video excerpt below) included collaborations with Weir, Ivan and Ian Neville, Karl Denson, Don Carlos, and host Tommy Chong.

Featuring no less than 21 tracks, Top of the World will feature reggae legends Barrington Levy and Don Carlos on the tracks “Ur Love” and “Marijuana,” respectively. Longtime band friend and touring partner G. Love appears on “Hiphoppablues,” and Angelo Moore appears on “Ska Diddy.” Ex-Jurassic Five emcee extraordinaire Chali 2na drops his signature verses on “Just Thinking,” while Dumpstaphunk’s Ian Neville and unofficial 8th member Karl Denson of Greyboy Allstars also lend their talents throughout the album.
Ska-flavored pop-punkers Slightly Stoopid formed in Ocean Beach to create a fusion of acoustic rock, blues, reggae, hip-hop, and punk, playing their first paid gig in 1994 at Soma. While still attending Point Loma High School the following year, band members Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald caught the attention of Sublime singer Bradley Nowell, who signed them to his own Skunk Records label and released their first two CDs, (Slightly Stoopid and The Longest Barrel Ride).
The group launched Stoopid Records with 2001’s Acoustic Roots: Live and Direct. They went on to release Everything You Need (selling more than 250,000 copies), Closer To The Sun, Winter Tour '05-'06, the DVD Live in San Diego (recorded at House of Blues on Thanksgiving 2005), Chronchitis (which debuted in the Billboard 100 and hit #2 on the indie charts), and Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid.
Over a year after its release, in September 2008, Chronchitis won Album of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards. The track "2am" from that album won Song Of the Year. In 2009, the band won Artist of the Year, an honor they picked up again at the September 2010 SDMA show.
Their tours have grown enough to include several tour buses, a barbecue, dirt bikes, skate boards, and motorcycles they take on the road with them. The latest incarnation of the band features Miles Doughty (guitar, bass, vocals), Kyle McDonald (guitar, bass, vocals), Ryan “Rymo” Moran (drums), Oguer “Og” Ocon (congas, percussion, harp, vocals), C-Money (trumpet), Dela (saxophone), and Paul Wolstencroft (keyboards).
