Headlining duo Ed Schrader’s Music Beat plays bare bones post punk with a rudimentary drum set manned by a standing Schrader, who also sings. Their debut album, Jazz Mind, clocks in at just 21 minutes with 11 breakneck tracks featuring guest appearances by No Age’s Randy Randall and upbeat experimental dance outfit Matmos.
LA via Oakland via Mobile, Alabama schizoid noise wave collective XBXRX features a rotating cast that currently includes Weasel Walter and Vice Cooler. The artful ensemble-de-force has shared the stage with with staples such as Unwound, Deerhoof, Q and Not U, Sonic Youth, and Peaches.
I first saw these guys nearly a decade ago opening for local demented dentists Holy Molar at the Che Café. They returned in January for the Che fundraiser and their dangling-from-the-rafters (literally) antics haven’t changed a bit. I, however, blew out an ankle after two minutes in the frenzied mosh pit.

Also on the bill is From Scars - local melodic hardcore punk featuring members of Eskera and Modern Aggression - and DJ MEE.
