Tween pop crooner Dylan Hyde is joining his friend and fellow actor Jared Gilmore, who plays Henry on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, in his mission to save a young Clydesdale/Gypsy Cobb gelding named Mushu at the Rocking Horse Ranch in El Cajon.

Mushu was born four years ago. This past winter, the horse’s hind hoof became infected, and anti-fungal and anti-bacterial treatments were started with no success. The infection has been diagnosed as canker, a very serious and rare disease that is almost unheard of in the United States, and all the more rare in Southern California.
“The Rocking Horse Ranch is right in my back yard, and I love animals,” says Hyde. “So, when I heard about Mushu, I wanted to help. The equine-therapy work and equine rescue that they do here at the ranch is really important.”

Without raising the $20,000 to treat this disorder, Mushu will have to be put down. Hyde and Gilmore recently filmed a PSA about Mushu and his disease, to help raise awareness of their cause. Donations are being accepted at http://www.rockinghorseranch.org. Click on the tab at the right that reads “Hope for Mushu.”
The Rocking Horse Ranch was founded to provide quality mental health services, personal growth, team-building and leadership, and educational programs utilizing Equine-Assisted Learning and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy.
According to the Ranch website, "Through interaction with trained therapeutic and equestrian counselors, using DSM-based interventions, educational components, and experiential opportunities, youth and adults can explore issues and learn new life skills. This experiential model allows clients to learn about themselves and others by participating in structured activities with the horses and then processing feelings, behaviors, and patters. The result in terms of clarity, retention, and application are exponential."
