Coachella's Sloppy Seconds

Typically, when a rock band is under contract to play a big festival, they contractually agree not to perform other shows within a certain perimeter around the festival grounds. This is to avoid cannibalizing the sale of tickets for the big show.

Coachella sold out long ago, which puts touring bands into a quandary -- they play the Indio Polo Fields two weekends in mid-April, and then what do they do with themselves (and their tour buses) during the week?

In some cases, that means head to San Diego! And some notable bands have chosen to make the trek to nearby smaller local venues, such as Belly-Up Tavern and Balboa Theater. As another Reader story documented, Noel Gallagher's anticipated High Flying Birds are bound for the Balboa Theater on April 17. Also, that night at the Belly Up, Swedish alt-pop band the Hives hit town with their high-energy show. On April 18, the English band the Buzzcocks will pay a visit to the Belly Up. More Coachella-bound bands may be on their way to san Diego, so stay tuned to Jam Session for updates. We have no problem dining on Coachella's (not too) sloppy seconds!
