Dragon Lounge 14 Year Anniversary

“One thing is for certain: if you like dubstep, drum & bass, or break beats, you've probably been to a Dragon Lounge,” says DJ and promoter Aaron 'Arkon' Hastings, who has curated the 2nd Saturday monthly at the Kava Lounge (alongside Kava co-owner and Dragon Lounge co-founder Kristie Aguirre) for the past 5 years.

“San Diego's longest running electronic night has been pushing the barriers of new sounds for 14 years now. Some of the newer genres added to the format these past couple of years are glitch, future jungle, and future garage. Highlights from 2011 were Brad & Dela Moontribe, J Boogie's Dubtronic Science, Nico Luminous, TZR, Danny the Wildchild, Dubtek, and Farace.”

Dragon Lounge was founded by B-Side, Jon Wesley, Kristie Aguirre, and Gage of Merge Life and Music in 1998 and hopped venues until Kava opened 8 years ago.

The event celebrates their 14 year anniversary on Saturday, January 14 with Kial from Sub Pressure Records, Mk Ultra, Jason, Goldenchild, and Arkon.

“Dragon Lounge will be hosting many more good vibe parties in the future and has become a staple for San Diego's underground,” Hastings says.

Next month’s Dragon Lounge features glitch producer Macrodot on Saturday, February 11th.
