If greatness is overcoming adversity then Jay Hunter Morris is great. He flew across the country, stepped into a demanding role sans rehearsal, presented a fully developed character, and made it look easy.
His performance as Captain Ahab in Moby Dick on Tuesday night was mind boggling. Mr. Morris’ website says he’s scheduled to sing the role at San Francisco come October and he did perform it in the summer of 2011. However, being ready to step on stage with two days’ notice is almost superhuman.
There are only two performances of Moby Dick remaining, Friday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm.
