This Saturday the 18th, Elev8 will be screening Electronic Awakening, an “ethnographic documentary” that examines the similarities between electronic dance music culture and ancient shamanic rituals.
The documentary was filmed over a period of 5 years at events including Burning Man, Earthdance, LoveFest, Moontribe, Wicked, Shambhala and the Boom Festival in Portugal, and features artists such as Shpongle, The Crystal Method, Vibrasphere, Random Rab, Bird of Prey, and Govinda, among others.
Headlining the night is anachronistic Portland thumper Phutureprimitive, who appears in Electronic Awakening, and local mainstays Osal8, Ideal & J-Break, Mike Mannino, Squama, Asteya, and Holden in the main room powered by Freebass Audio.
The second story lounge features Melotronix, Starfoxx RSM, CML, Cloudmonster, and Blaynedead.
"We want this night to set the tone for the direction Elev8 is headed in 2012," says promoter and musician Osal8, who recently launched the Elev8us.com music blog in collaboration with local bass luminaries Squama (aka Headshake), Asteya, HM.T DM.T (rest in peace, brother), and Mike Mannino.
Anticipate live art by Griffin One, video by Matt Skow, hooping by Beacon and Miss Jedi, and visuals by Wind Spirit at the late night (4 a.m.) venue.
Tickets - $20 presale.
