After more than 35 years of playing upbeat, animated punk rock, English band the Adicts retain an energetic stage presence. The curtain rose to the first notes of “Ode to Joy,” revealing the band’s four instrumentalists, clad in their customary white attire.
Vocalist Monkey took to stage after the first song, wearing joker makeup, and a colorfully sequined hat and suit, tossing decks of loose playing cards into the crowd. The audience reacted immediately and enthusiastically — there were no wallflowers there.
The show was a nonstop joy ride of catchy anthems, humorous lyrics of political and social commentary, confetti, ribbon, glitter, and beach balls flying through the air, onto the stage, and into the crowd. The audience danced, moshed, and sang along throughout the set. During "Bad Girl," female audience members were invited onstage to dance. Other key tracks included the singles "Chinese Takeaway" and "Viva La Revolution" and sing-along anthem "Joker in the Pack."
