The Apocalypse

Experimental beat monthly Liquid Geometry goes out with a boom

The apocalypse.

Here it is, in just five days. The Big One.

It’s amazing to think that just a work week away, life as we know it will be inverted in dimensions we never knew existed.

Everything we know about anything will be turned on its head and all attempts at reason will fail.

Chaos and oblivion will reign supreme.

Or will they?

I, for one, have been pretty unimpressed by the lead up to these so-called “end times.”

Where are the FEMA camps, martial law, and reptilian overlords we were promised?

Where are the firestorms, space junk, and earthquakes (that afterthought of a tremor the other night hardly rang of Armageddon)?

Where are the seven-headed sea beasts and RFID handshakes?

At this rate, the Mayan long-count end date this Friday is certain to be a serious existential disappointment, like when you realized memes aren’t the enlightened byproducts of a utopian, collective cyber consciousness, but just a bunch of turdmobiles who spend half their lives captioning funny cat photos on Reddit and 4Chan.

“Whether you believe that life as you know it will come to an end with earthquakes, tidal waves, aliens visitors arriving to enslave the human race, a black hole opening up in your living room, OR that the 21st will just be another Friday; Liquid Geometry believes that it’s in your best interest to come elevate your spirit with us on the 20th,” the beat monthly/label writes in a press release.

Indeed, Liquid Geometry - who have spent over two years showcasing local experimental electronic innovators alongside out-of-town beat ambassadors including Eprom, Freddy Todd, Teebs, Lorn, Take, Dibiase, and Samiyam - threw a preemptive Timewave Zero party on December 21 last year, just in case.

This Thursday, December 20, Liquid Geometry invites you to hop aboard the Kava Lounge (2812 Kettner Blvd. – Middletown) starship and welcome the doom, the epiphany, or the workaday anticlimax of the New Dawn with a portal from Planet Bass to be opened by electronic R&B/funk luminary and Frite Nite foundational member B. Bravo (SF):

Along with Mateo Bambaataa (Kill Quanti), visuals by techno-tinkerer CutMod, and live art by surrealist Adam Moyes.

The world probably won't end (whatever that means) this week, but Liquid G’s Apocalypse will be the last of their monthly installments at the Kava Lounge as the collective focuses on their burgeoning label.

Liquid Geometry debuted as a label last April with Mastah Syphe’s Bullrider EP.

Their next release, the In Uwer Hart EP from ambient Dutchman Eigenheimer, will drop a day before The Apocalypse show on Wednesday, December 19th.

Mastah Syphe and Sleeve↓ will also be throwing down at the legendary Low End Theory weekly in Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 30.

Apocalypse tickets: $15 presale - $18 at the door.
