Japandi reunites to usher in apocalypse

Instrumental math rock outfit returns from hiatus to go out with a bang

Heralding the end of the world (just in case), polyrhythmic instrumental mathematicians Japandi are reuniting for a couple of shows after a two year hiatus which saw members joining up with outfits including Cults, Weatherbox, and Realization Orchestra.

On Friday, December 21, Japandi is playing an all-day festival at the Ché Café with Snuffaluffagus, Census (members of Cults), Crooks, Mothlight, Weatherboxes, Aaha, Nature's Kid, Nut/Crackers, and Darc Meriso.

“A collective of San Diego bands are coming together to celebrate an event many have speculated about over time,” the Facebook invite reads.

“We are offering a way to see how the events of 12/21/12 unfold. Will it be a step forward in evolutionary consciousness or an apocalyptic mess of events, either way Japandi will reunite for the event with a set time at 11:11. The supposed time that signs of this point in history are speculated to show.”

The following night, Saturday, December 22, they’ll be at the Soda Bar with Cuckoo Chaos and Gothic Tropic (LA)

Japandi formed in 2004 by then-teenagers Marc Deriso (drums), Jeff Striker (bass), Andy Seymour (guitar), and George Pritzker (guitar).

They have since released two albums and shared the stage with luminaries such as Sleeping People, Upsilon Acrux, and Marnie Stern.
