The choral group Sacra/Profana gave a free community Christmas concert Sunday night at Mission Hills United Methodist.
The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. The singers wore decorative Christmas sweaters and scarfs.
The program for the concert was included 16th century Latin Carols, African Christmas music, English Carols, Christmas songs such as Winter Wonderland, and more. The concert concluded with an audience sing along section. We sang Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Jingle Bells, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Members of the choir had made cookies and invited the audience to come share the Christmas calories after the concert concluded.
Sacra/Profana is a good choir. Their sound isn’t quite classical but it isn’t a pop sound either. They just sound like a solid group of singers who enjoy various types of music.
Next weekend they will be performing Handel’s The Messiah with refugees from Orchestra Nova. Sacra/Profana was slated to be the chorus for Orchestra Novas Messiah concerts before the cancellation of the season.
