Face of Another: DJ ill spectre and Marilia Maschion A/V Mix

The “Face of Another” mix showcases selections from DJ ill spectre’s library of bass, UK garage, house, trap, juke, and post-dubstep overlaid with fever dream visuals orchestrated by artist Marilia Maschion.

“This has been floating around in the ether for a while now,” writes DJ ill spectre (Derek Emery) in his blog, Chickens Don’t Clap.

“Originally conceived as a mix for some friends that passed through on tour, then expanded to a 2 hour set for MOPA’s ‘POP Thursdays,’ later distilled to a shorter visual set performed at [a warehouse party], expanded once again to a 2 hour visual set performed at The Whistle Stop, and then refined further to what you have in front of you today.

“For me, this is by far the finest permutation of the mix. Marilia’s visuals, which feature a series of expertly manipulated scenes from some of our favorite films, give it a truly cinematic quality.”

DJ ill spectre got a shout out in last week’s nightlife issue in connection with Art in the Park live art and music night at Bluefoot and recently shared a Liquid Geometry bill with Kansas/DC goombawave (a chillwave/trap hybrid [srsly]) honcho MORRI$ at the Kava Lounge.
