Local Soprano Loves Frogs

I asked local soprano Stephanie Sabin to describe her upcoming concert titled Les Chemins de l'amour

"[It is] a lone woman's journey through a life of love discovered, devoured, exhausted, sacrificed, suffered, and surrendered through the lesser-known music from well-known composers."

It sounded intense so I asked for the rest of the story.

In October of 2009, Stephanie spent five weeks in Paris.

During the trip, she worked with vocal coaches, challenged herself to improve her French, met several wonderful musicians, and fell in love with Paris. She sang at the American Church a few times and was invited to return and give a concert in March of 2011.

Stephanie worked with her voice teacher and put together a program of lesser-known songs by well known French composers.

The program includes songs by Gounod, Bizet, Berlioz, Duparc, Poulenc, Faure, Satie, Weill, and Sondheim.

"These pieces were from their early musings — beautiful music that got lost in the shuffle and shadows of the bigger, more famous works."

All the songs revolve around the theme of love. What do the French know about love?

The first performance of this program was in September of 2010 and was sponsored by Musical Merit of San Diego. The concert in Paris was standing room only and a resounding success.

Stephanie is performing her concert at Villa Musica this Saturday, September 24, at 7:30 in the evening.

This is a great opportunity to hear a phenomenal local singer.
