On account of last night’s mega blackout throwing the bulk of Southern California into a powerless, apocalyptic frenzy (did you see the line for beer and ice at 7-11?!), my plans to see Atari Teenage Riot, Otto Von Shirach, and ReTox at Porter’s Pub were exchanged for an evening of howling blues jams to an acoustic guitar in a candle-lit Ruby Room.
You can catch ReTox again on Saturday, September 17 at Bodega Aragon in Tijuana with San Diego experimental post-punkers Batwings, and Mexicali noisey-dancey-punks Maniqui Lazer and Noise Beat Propaganda.
In the meantime, check out ReTox frontman Justin Pearson (The Locust, Holy Molar, All Leather) tomorrow, Saturday 10, at the Lafayette Hotel in North Park.
Pearson will be part of a San Diego Music Thing panel discussing the resurgence of indie labels and will be joined by moderator Josh Feingold (Songs Publishing), Jello Biafra (Alternative Tentacles Records), Matt Halverson (Lefse Records) and Scott Simoneaux (Aquarium Drunkard/Autumn Tone Records).
The discussion begins at 3:45 p.m.
Afterwards, head over to Queen Bee’s Art and Cultural Center (3925 Ohio St) in North Park for a Three One G showcase and see Pearson with Blue Note’s only date in San Diego playing the songs of the mid-90s hardcore group Swing Kids.
Cattle Decapitation has cancelled for this event, but the line up still includes gnarlies Bastard Noise, Secret Fun Club, and a DJ set from Leg Lifters (Pearson and Nathan Joyner of Hot Nerds, Some Girls, and All Leather).
