Another Voice Hopeful

Justine Ducloux is a Mission Valley transplant from the Twin Cities. She plays the role of Stones backup singer Mary Clayton or Lisa Fisher in the San Diego-based tribute band Rolling the Stones. And if the breaks fall her way, Ducloux may land up on season two of the NBC music reality show The Voice, in production this fall.

Ducloux passed one audition earlier this week and got a callback for a second tryout scheduled for Saturday in Burbank. “Tomorrow is just in front of the executives of the show for, I believe, a final audition before you go on the actual show.”

Tori Roze, Greg Gibson, Ashley Matte, Alyssa Jacey, Josh Damigo, and Matt Commerce are also among the locals who auditioned for the show.

What song did Ducloux choose to audition with? “A bluesy rendition of “Oh Darlin” by the Beatles,” and, acappella at that. Why does she think she survived the first round of cuts? “They wanna see that you’re really into it, that you enjoy what you’re doing. There were certain bluesy riffs that I was using in the song, and I think it was the twist that I put into it and showed the passion in the song and how I love to sing, and I just tried to showcase that all in one package in 30 seconds.” She laughs.

She says her band mates are supportive and willing to put up with her absence, should she actually become one of the final four contestants. If so, she says they’ll shoot in October, December, and January. “I get a little bit nervous, but I think with being in the Rolling the Stones band I’m much more confident in my ability. I’m hoping it’ll go smoothly.”
