"On Sunday night, I finally get to play a gig with my brother Tripp! We've got the quartet assembled for this one and we'll be playing my new tunes at a first rate theatre," said San Diego guitarist Peter Sprague, about his upcoming concert on Oct. 23, at Liberty Hall Theatre in National City.
The quartet he's referring to is comprised of drummer Duncan Moore, bassist Gunnar Biggs and Tripp Sprague on tenor saxophone, flute, chromatic harmonica, and, on one tune, guitar!
"We are doing 'Moot Pont' from the Mill Creek Road recording. I'm playing the piano part--and Tripp is on the guitar lick," said Sprague.
The Sprague brothers burst onto the local music scene in the 1970s, playing together in the now-legendary collective, "Dance Of The Universe Orchestra."
Although Peter gets most of the press, anyone who was listening knows that brother Tripp is a top-flight saxophonist. "What Tripp does, musically, can not be taught," said virtuoso contrabass master Mark Dresser, "It's innate."
They've always had a special hook-up, and to my ears, Sprague the guitarist never sounds better than with Sprague the saxophonist by his side.
"It's great to be playing with Tripp again. Like riding a musical bicycle, second nature. He's playing so good these days , too," said the guitarist.
Liberty Hall Theatre is a 212 seat state-of-the-art venue located on the second floor at 2700 East 4th Street, in the Paradise Village Plaza.
Showtime, 6-8 p.m.
