The Palomar College Performing Arts Department is putting on a free Drum Set Clinic with internationally acclaimed, Grammy Award winning drummer / percussionist Mark Walker, on Oct. 22, from noon-2 p.m., in Room D-6.
Walker, a Chicago native, now resides in Boston, where he was appointed Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music. He has also served on the faculty of the Drummers Collective in NYC, and conducted master classes, clinics and workshops in North and South America and Europe.
Jazz enthusiasts will know him best for his work with the chamber-jazz/world music ensemble Oregon, a groundbreaking group in all respects.
Additionally, Walker has performed and/or recorded with Latin Jazz stars like saxophonist Paquito D' Rivera, composer Michel Camilo, and the Caribbean Jazz Project.
In the mainstream jazz area, the drummer has performed with saxophone master David Liebman and with such groups as pianist Lyle Mays Quartet, and trombonist Bill Watrous.
Walker has appeared on television shows such as, "Late Night with David Letterman," "The Rosie O' Donnell Show," and "BET On Jazz."
In other words, this guy has chops, credentials and experience. Free workshops with musicians at his level are few and far between.
Palomar College is located at 1140 W. Mission Rd. in San Marcos.
