Erasure hasn't toured for a while, so the raucous crowd at the House of Blues could be excused for it's boisterous display of adoration toward Andy Bell and Vince Clarke.
The crowd was so effusive in its joy to share an evening with the English synth-pop duo that just about every song in the set enjoyed a loud crowd sing-along. The energy was contagious, as singer Andy Bell was full of histrionics on the gargoyle-decorated stage, whipping through a series of hits from the past and songs due from soon-to-be-released Tomorrow's World. Vince Clarke played efficiently and looked sharp in a sparkly red jacket.
Performance standouts included a sweet "Always," a rowdy version of "Take Me, I'm Yours," and a lushly delicate "Alien," with an acoustic-guitar intro. "Ship of Fools" and "Sometimes" closed the set until the band returned with encores "L'Amour" and "Stop," the lyrics of which promise "We'll be together again." A sentiment the capacity crowd hopes will come true.
