“Our BAJATON monthly in SD [is] a project that I've personally been working on bringing to fruition (convincing U31/everyone to let me do) for almost 6 months and it's a concept that's very near and dear to my heart,” writes promoter and founder of TheMixster.com Taylor Doms via email, who last month hosted San Diego’s first moombah “tropical groove party” at U-31 with Corey Hurley (aka Colour Vision).
The night focuses on the sounds of Moombahton, Tropical Bass, Kuduro, Afro & Latin Beat, and Cumbiaton.
“The BAJATON objective is not simply to promote the brand, but to extend our promotion and to enhance the overall awareness about Moombahton itself and the artists themselves across as broad and as vast an audience/readership as possible,” writes Doms.
“...our efforts to use BAJATON as that promotional platform as a whole for all involved, has been working. And we couldn't be more delighted about it… Moombahton is inherently dance worthy. It's one thing to listen to it on your headphones, but it's a COMPLETELY different beast altogether when experienced live. In the past, indie dance parties usually meant scenesters standing in corners the whole night and judging each other. But moombahton is addictive; that sexy Latin tempo is so easy to move to, and impossible to ignore. It's amazing to see how excited people get when they hear moombahton, and it's even more exhilarating seeing every single person on the dance floor, smiling & grooving nonstop, all night long. It's pretty incredible really."
Last month’s debut BAJATON featured three Moombahton luminaries from Diplo’s LA via Philly label Mad Decent - New Yorker SAZON BOOYA, Miami's JWLS, and LA's ETC!ETC! - which has played a significant role in popularizing the genre.
The next BAJATON goes down this Wednesday, October 5, and will feature “one of the members of the Holy Moombah Trinity (alongside moombahton creator Dave Nada himself, and Munchi) DAVID HEARTBREAK and San Diego native babySTEPS.

BAJATON features live visuals by A/S/L, “tropical randomness by way of inflatable palm trees, bizarre masks, and ginormous sombreros,” and $3 Piña Colada shots all night.
No cover with RSVP before 10:30 - $5 after.
