AIDS Eyes and Post-Persian Bummers Tonight at Kava

As a massive shot in the vein of San Diego’s tradition of experimental and exploratory music, the Kava Lounge is featuring an extra eclectic showcase of local and out-of-town sonic deviants tonight.

You’ll recognize Drainolith (Alex Moskos) from the Canada noise-wave quartet AIDS Wolf. For this solo project, the Montreal resident expands on his role as a guitarist with modified electronics, analog synths, and drum synths to find a sound somewhere between Brian Eno, Christian Marclay, and Oval.

Fellow lupus savage Nate Young (Wolf Eyes) groans like a shipwreck with a digital piano, tape loops, and handmade electronics. Young says this project is “like a hex sign” and that he “likes the idea of distracting negative energy with art and holding it at bay.”

Yes.

Local David Barclay aka Endless Bummer will open the night with his goofball Raffi meets Napoleon Dynamite Casio sway pop jelly jams.

Topping the night will be San Diego post-Persian 13-piece Dornob playing traditional instruments such as the tar, qanam, santur, and daf with Persian-tuned keyboards and fretless bass guitars.

Yet another reason to be entirely stoked on America’s Finest City.

Five American dollars.
