Surfing Canines Star in "San Diego Dogs" Music Video

Two musical California Gurls and their dog-surfer friend Ricochet, along with other San Diego Surf Dogs, have made a music video for the song "San Diego Dogs," to spread their message: "Adopt Your Dog from a Rescue or Shelter!"

Local 'tween pop stars Lia Marie Johnson and Roxy King teamed up with the Surf Dogs to motivate people into visiting their local rescue and animal shelters and leaving with a new best friend (or two!).

Recorded and mixed at San Diego's Capricorn Studios, with lyrics by Johnson, King, and Tony Perri, proceeds from the iTunes release of "San Diego Dogs" will be donated to the American Humane Association and the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

The video's surfing star Ricochet the dog has raised over $125,000 for human and animal causes. She also surfs tandem with special needs kids and people with disabilities for therapeutic purposes.

Co-star Rina is a service dog whose favorite task is picking up packages from the UPS driver. She's a registered and certified therapy dog and does goal-directed therapy at schools.

Their human friends in the SoCal Surf Dogs say "We love to surf with our dogs, [and] our dogs love to surf with us! We will only do it safely. We will always help others learn to surf with their dogs. We will leave nothing on the beach, except smiles and paw prints. We will always support dog charities and rescue shelters."

Other canine stars who appear in the video include Al Capone, Antonio, Brody, Guido, Jack, Kalani, King, Kona Kai, Louie, Maggie, Missy, Moo, Murphee, Nani, Toby, Wall-e, and Zoe.

"It was so fun to shoot it with these amazingly talented dogs," says Roxy King, "even though I'm really allergic!"

Lia Marie Johnson first earned local notice with tween pop stars Pink Army, which she co-founded with Alicia Randolph (aka Tina) and Kayla Cruise (aka Charisma Kain). The group is modeled after Disney Channel/Nickelodeon stars such as Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez. “Our music is electro-pop, with a little R&B that’s easy to dance to,” says Kain.

In March 2010, they received Child Actor Recognition Awards at Universal Studios. The next day, Pink Army marched into Sonikwire Studios in Irvine to record the first track on their debut album, with L.A.-based producer and cowriter Eddie Galan (B5, the Clique Girlz, Akon, Backstreet Boys, Alyson Stoner, etc.).

Galan’s songs have been used for TV shows such as The Hills and Keeping Up With the Kardashians and on the Hannah Montana soundtrack, as well as the soundtrack to High School Musical.

Alicia “Tina” Randolph (who has a three-legged dog named Sasha) says Galan called the group after their lawyer played a few of the girls’ dance tunes and three-part harmonies for him.

In early 2011, Lia Johnson was replaced in the band by Maddie Simpson. Says the band’s management, “Lia chose to go with her acting passion, since she could not do both with the pressures of the band.”

Roxy King is a 15-year old singer/songwriter and actress. She plays keyboard and guitar and writes/co-writes original music, ranging from ballads to pop tunes about missing her grandmother ("Not Goodbye"), hanging out with friends ("Have Some Fun"), growing up ("Magical Life"), and being an artist ("Still I Can Dream").

A registered member of ASCAP, King recorded an EP in June 2009 and released her first full-length in June 2011.

In above photo, King is seen on Patrick Ivison's adapted surfboard with Ricochet. She's one of the few people ever to surf with Ricochet, who usually only rides the waves with Ivison!
