It's been a while since my last show, which was Kreator in the early 2000s, but I am anxious to see Brujería who have been at their satanic/political grindcore for almost 20 years.
Frontmen Juan Brujo and Pinche Peach hit the stage raging as they egg on one another and go into "Pito Wilson" (Dick Wilson), a parody on ex-governor Pete Wilson. The crowd went nuts as the mosh pit swirled. The pit got violent at times but maintained control. When "Matando Gueros" began, fists pumped in the air. The band introduced a new song from upcoming album Angel de la Frontera, an all-out onslaught of old-school heavy metal.
Brujería’s songs are sung in Spanish, but in between songs they would address the crowd in broken English. Before going into "La Migra," Juan Brujo lifted a machete and swung it around, occasionally whacking a monitor. All in all, a great show at a venue keeping true to the underground metal scene.
Concert: Brujería
Date: October 21
Venue: Brick by Brick
Seats: General
