Since moving back to San Diego in 1989, doublebassist Rob Thorsen has become a ubiquitous and vital member of the local jazz scene, performing initially with tenor saxophonist Daniel Jackson and pianist Mike Wofford.
Thorsen has made several recordings of his original music in the last few years, most notably "Lasting Impression" and "Moon Ray".
The bassist is known for his rock solid timekeeping and his melodic inventiveness as a soloist--making him the upright player of choice for traveling artists like drummer Louis Hayes, trombonist Curtis Fuller and guitarist Kenny Burrell.
Locally, he is a member of the co-op group E.S.P., the Gilbert Castellanos New Latin Jazz Quartet, and the Dave Scott Quartet. You can catch him every Wednesday with Castellanos at Jazz at El Camino in Little Italy or on Fridays at the Hotel La Jolla with Scott.
He will also perform as a member of saxophonist Jason Robinson's Janus Ensemble on Thursday, June 2 at Dizzy's.
