“People are wary of drum machines because they can blow out sound systems,” says Gun Runner guitarist Tommy Graf, who until recently covered guitar and acoustic percussion duties in the band with the help of programmed beats. The addition of drummer Seth Cash, a former member of the Blue Man Group, brings the indie soul group to a four piece. The new line-up will be taking off on a two-and-a-half week West Coast tour next week.
Notable stops along the way for Graf include the Fun House in Seattle (where Tape Deck Mountain will be playing a few days earlier), the Soul of John Black CD release show at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, and a gig with San Diego ambient post-rockers The Album Leaf at the Crepe Place in Santa Cruz.
“That’s probably the most anticipated show for us,” says Graf of the Santa Cruz date.
Gun Runner’s full length album, Obstacles and Experiments, is mastered and set with art, but the band will be touring on their Bad Neighbors EP, which was released almost a year ago, while they shop around labels for the new album. They plan to release a track from Obstacles and Experiments before taking off on tour next Tuesday, Graf says.
