Summer is nearly upon us and that means several awesome things. Besides the ole all night bike & booze in a T-shirt, summer time also hails festival season when, if you know where to look, you can find a gathering in the desert just about every weekend. Here are a few cattywampi to get you started.
Lightning in a Bottle – Silverado, CA – May 27 thru 30 – You may have seen the Do Lab's surreal architecture at Coachella. This weekend festival, just east of Irvine, will bring together artists and musicians including Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, Bonobo, Beats Antique, MiMOSA, Random Rab, Kraddy, and Eskmo. Telemagica - Jacumba, CA – June 10 thru 12 – This small gathering an hour and a half east of San Diego includes performances from Sleeve, THErapist, Halloween Swim Team, and HM.T DM.T.
Electric Daisy Carnival – Las Vegas, NV – June 24 thru 26 – Formerly held in Los Angeles, this massive has peaked at 130,000 people and seen performances from the likes of Steve Aoki, Deadmau5, Afrojack, Dada Life, Benni Benassi, and MSTRKRFT.
High Sierra Music Festival – Quincy, CA - June 30 thru July 3 – About 10,000 attendees are expected to head to the hills for My Morning Jacket, Ween, Dr. Dog, Delta Spirit, and many others.
Burning Man – Gerlach, NV – August 29 thru September 5 - 50,000 pyromaniacal nudists gather for a week in the middle of the desert to blow stuff up and dance around to Bassnectar. Which is, ya know, totally rad.
Nocturnal Festival – San Bernardino, CA – September 23 and 24 – This 50,000 strong massive has seen past performances from Chase & Status, Caspa, Skream, Benga, and AK1200.
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival – San Francisco, CA – October 1 thru 3 – A free festival in Golden Gate park, Hardly Strictly has hosted the likes of Marchforth Marching Band, that Bright Eyes twerp, Railroad Earth, Umphrey’s McGee, and Yonder Mountain String Band, to name a few.
