Nick Cannon has responded to allegations that he and his wife Mariah Carey were drinking liquor and taking illegal drugs at the L.A. hospital where she gave birth to twins on April 30 (which happened to be their third wedding anniversary).
While media reports state that the couple have been interviewed by social workers about the allegations, Cannon flatly denied any wrongdoing in an interview with TV talk show host Piers Morgan.
“Recently,” said Cannon, “the child protective services were called with allegations that there was some drinking and drugs and all that going on, wild in the hospital, which makes no sense to me...how would a hospital allow that?”
“It all started when a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness, the dark beer, the yeast improves breastfeeding…then they were saying my wife was drinking beer. People will do anything to try to conjure up a story.”
“To even have to deal with that, my wife in the state that she's in, we're in the hospital, to even have to think about someone possibly wanting to investigate your children... it's sad at the end of the day.”
Cannon was born in San Diego on October 8, 1980. When he was 12, he began riding busses to L.A., in order to perform stand-up comedy at venues like the Laugh Factory. Because liquor was served, he often had to wait in the kitchen before his set.
At 18, he moved to L.A. and was on the Nickelodeon TV show All That. By 2002, he had his own Nick Cannon Show. He wed singer Mariah Carey in 2008.
In 2010, Cannon became a programming chairman at Nickelodeon (Nick at Night – get it?), where he’s said he will launch a Josie and the Pussycats revival. He’s also developing a hip-hop puppet show for the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block.
In late 2010, his single “So Westcoast” featured Compton’s own DJ Quik, while he worked on a new double-album and a new mixtape featuring remixes done with Snoop Dogg, E-40, and Quik.
He and wife Mariah Carey are both working on albums of new music.
