San Diego Music Thing Conference Accepting Artist Submissions

LAFAYETTE HOTEL, UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS/NORTH PARK, SAN DIEGO

The San Diego Music Thing (formerly known as the North Park Music Thing- NPMT) is now in its fourth year drawing music industry professionals, talented musicians and aspiring professionals to San Diego. This year's event will be September 9 and 10 at the historic Lafayette Hotel, where University Heights meets North Park.

SDMT offers attendees an opportunity to improve their knowledge of the music business through interactive and roundtable sessions with nationally-known panelists and featured speakers who represent the best and most innovative aspects of the music business; as well as an evening Music Festival component, with over 100 local, regional and national bands performing at 15 venues around town.

The annual event is presented by the San Diego Music Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 1991 to make experiential music programs available to children of need in San Diego County. The SDMF also organizes the San Diego Music Awards show, recognizing artists of exceptional merit in the community, and provides professional development opportunities for current and emerging musicians.

Panel topics for this year's conference include:

  1. Music industry 101: The Basics 2011

  2. How To Develop a Coordinated Social Media Plan Without Spending a Bundle

  3. Music DIY - Is it realistic?

  4. Do bands in 2011 really need a full time manager?

  5. No matter what you do, it’s all about the song.

  6. Licensing Your Music: Can a band make money from TV, movies, and video games?
