“Live//Technology is something Walknasty and I came up with to merge my night with his night, Brokenbeat, for an evening of clashing the two concepts. Brokenbeat is fond of artists who use controllers, keyboards, drum machines, and any type of live and improvised performance.
“The first installment of Dead//Tech vs. Live//Tech was held during Brokenbeat night at club Kadan and featured Jason, Hm.t Dm.t, Misk, and myself. Jason is legendary in the world of any sort of breakbeat vinyl, and his record crates are deeper than the OJ Simpson case. If anyone in SD can rep the vinyl side, it's him.
“Hm.t Dm.t plays most, if not all, original music via controllers and laptop, and has one of the creepiest and most psychedelic styles in the states!
“Misk slices and dices his own beats and melodies via the unmistakable Monome, and I will be playing lots of unreleased material on acetate dubplates - mostly my own music.
“This installment, which is the second round, features the same lineup, but will be held on Dead//Tech turf, the Kava Lounge. The twist - Misk and I (of San Diego's own Elk record label) will be battling, and even using some of each other’s beats... Mixing and remixing in our own ways to flex our styles.
"We also want to bring the turntables and gear table right to the floor, so the crowd can see exactly what we're doing, and to give a unique experience and view into the performances. Round one was amazing... Everyone won! So we need another round to settle the score.”
