Flutist Holly Hofmann has been doing her thing in San Diego for years now, both as a renowned musician and a concert series curator.
Last month, she finished up her latest recording, "Turn Signal" at Studio West in Rancho Bernardo. Hofmann is on the Capri Records imprint, which also features dozens of other big-time mainstream jazz artists like trombonist Grachan Moncur III, and Phil Woods.
Woods, the four time Grammy Award winning alto saxophonist said, " Along with Hubert Laws, Holly is frankly, the best flute player today."
Hofmann will be spending this week instructing at the UCSD jazz camp.
This latest recording features trumpeter Terell Stafford, who's got McCoy Tyner and Bobby Watson on his resume, pianist Mike Wofford, bassist Rob Thorsen and drummer Richard Sellers.
"Turn Signal" will be released in early 2012. Hofmann's last few CD's for Capri have been well received, especially "Live At The Athenaeum 2" with husband Wofford, and "Minor Miracle" with Wofford, Peter Washington on bass and Victor Lewis on drums.
