SD Union One Year Anniversary with DJ Dara at the Ruby Room

Tyler Rosier (MC Ridda) and Sean McGowen of Technical Support TV, a web-based electronic music video magazine, will be celebrating the one year anniversary of their SD Union monthly at the Ruby Room on Saturday, June 18. Outfitted with DEEP’s bass-ready sound system, the eclectic monthly seeks to “further consolidate the diverse electronic music scene in San Diego by providing a welcoming venue for all performers and by pooling San Diego’s collective resources to bring in talent from outside our own city borders,” according to an email from Rosier and McGowen. The event has hosted artists in hip hop, dubstep, drum and bass, breaks, and house, among other genres.

“While SD Union’s roots have always had an emphasis on drum and bass with shows featuring acts like Capital J, Gridlok, and AK1200, we have always emphasized our interest in local talent from various genres as well. SD Union has grown steadily in the last year. We are happy with the growth, but are in no way sated with it. Putting on a show on a regular basis has required serious work, has had its ups and downs, twists and turns, and full on back flips. While bringing down big names for a night has always assured a packed house, SD Union has always had to focus on forming a great relationship with local talent that can create a great show for everyone, any night of the week. Without our relationship with local talent, SD Union would have never survived on its own.”

Rosier says the best part for him has been performing on stage with DJ’s and MC’s who he’s looked up to since getting involved with drum and bass over twelve years ago. McGowen, who handles the door, says appreciation from attendees has meant the most to him. Both recognize the support they’ve received from artists, production companies, and local crews within the electronic music community.

“At the culmination of a successful year, we all look forward to working with [drum and bass legend] DJ Dara at the upcoming one year anniversary show, a milestone we are quite proud of.”

SD Union anticipates bigger shows, more local talent, and new listeners in the future.

The anniversary show will feature Dara, Ronnie b2b Whizard, Osal8, Eric Yo, DJ Hevrock.
