Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos will celebrate his 39th birthday with his regular Wednesday night jam session at El Camino in Little Italy--expanded with surprise guests comprising "my favorite players from around town," said Castellanos.
The music begins at 9:00 p.m. with a set by one of the trumpeter's regular working groups, Irving Flores at the piano, Rob Thorsen on bass, Mike Holguin on drums and Charlie Chavez on percussion--afterwards it figures to be a San Diego all-star affair.
Castellanos calls El Camino "my second home" and adds that, "let's just say this is one of those sessions that you won't want to miss." All ages are welcome--and there's no cover charge.
Downbeat magazine recently declared that Castellanos was a "new American Master." Find out why, and catch some of the area's finest jazz talent on Wednesday evening.
