Saturn Never Sleeps is a collaboration of Philadelphia music producer King Britt and singer/artist Rucyl which formed in 2009 for two improvisational performances dedicated to the music of Sun-Ra.
Pushing the tradition of electronic innovators like Herbie Hancock, Raymond Scott, and Delia Derbyshire, the experimental duo combines electronic beats and samples with layered vocals, improvised instrumentation, and heavy bass.
King Britt appears as “Silkworm” in the Grammy-winning Digable Planets and has produced platinum remixes for Miles Davis, George Duke, Santigold, and many others.
Rucyl Mills (New York) got her start in music with the alt hip hop group The Goats. In 2008, she built the Chakakhantroller, a wearable midi controller, and now produces experimental soundscapes with Saturn Never Sleeps using vocals, loops, and tones generated from processed audio clips.
Saturn Never Sleeps will be performing at the renowned Low End Theory night in Los Angeles on July 20 before appearing at the Kava Lounge in Middletown on Sunday, July 24.
Cover is $10 - Kava suggests you arrive before 10 p.m. to ensure entry.
