Yesterday I gave you a preview of the Kava Lounge’s 7th anniversary line-up.
Consistently at the forefront of San Diego’s electronic, experimental, and world music curve, Kava cultivates the underbelly of local and touring music and pours a mean menu of creative organic free trade shade grown non-GMO cocktails to boot.
Here’s how all that transpired.
L.A. melodic hip hop vocalist Gina Rene of the downtempo electronic soul band Soulstice, who shares the Om Records roster with the likes of Bassnectar, J Boogie, and People Under the Stairs, opened up the night with Kava’s Mateo Bambaataa on the decks.

Local Mystery Cave dispensed tripola beats via Roland SP-555 sampler.

Dakini Star and Aima the Dreamer of the heady chic-hop group Goddess Alchemy Project laid down some rhymes.

Vegan Flytrap (Sonny Romeri of Illuminauts) DJ-ed a chopped up set of covers including perhaps the raddest Radiohead remix in the universe.

Liquid Geometry mover and shaker HM.T DM.T transported humanoids into deep space, as usual.

Tonight, Kava is curating a Cheb I Sabbah cancer treatment benefit, where the San Francisco via Algeria world bass beat DJ will perform along with percussionist Frank Lazaro, Forward Funk, DJ Jon Wesley, DJ Arkon, improv tribal dance with Sabrina Fox and Raine, and roots dance theatre by Kirti Srivastava.
If you can't make the show, you can donate online.
