Gloria Camp: Anything To Win

When Hillary was running for President I wanted to get behind her. I wanted her to give me a reason to fight for her...and then she kept lying. And each time she lied, my stomach sank a little more, and I knew I could not support her. She was going to lose because she would do anything to win.

Todd's camp is doing ANYTHING and I mean anything to win. As if tearing down signs painted by 8 year olds wasn't enough, their latest hit piece in the form of a mailer is nothing less than contemptible, deceitful and irresponsible.

It lists some of Stephen's supporters on the back implying they are special interests particularly developers and says "Say No to Backroom Deals".

But the strange thing is that some of these "special interests" are well known, well respected community members that have been tirelessly fighting developers. I mean Dan Soderberg, are you kidding me? He is a photographer and one of our greatest allies. He regularly comes to council meeting and speaks out against development projects. And Tom Mullaney from "Friends of San Diego" who led the fight against the 301 University project, Roxanne Govari led the fight against the expansion of Our Lady of Peace school in the Normal Heights/University Heights single-family neighborhood.

You make our point for us. This is the evidence you are using to suggest Stephen is secretly working for developers? These are our heroes and you have the audacity to list them as developer special interests.

Why don't you throw Pat Flannery on there, I mean he is a realtor after all and I'm sure you would have thrown me on there too had I been able to make a big enough contribution to Stephen. After all I am an aspiring architect.

This speaks volumes about your fact checking and those accounting eyes you like to brag about--those accounting eyes that would have caught the SEDC scandal had you been on the case. Really, you would have been able to see all that, but you couldn't see that Dan Soderberg is an architectural photographer, not a developer. And why didnt those accounting eyes see the illegal e-mails you sent to Nancy Graham and the rest of CCDC...9 times.

The thing with Stephen's people is that we won't do anything to win. We won't tear Todd Gloria signs down even after he has torn all of ours down that were next to them along Park Blvd. We won't knock on people's doors and lie to them about who is behind Todd. We won't brag that certain organizations are behind Stephen ....unless they actually are. We won't say anything unless it is clearly substantiated with facts.

And if we don't win this race, it will be precisely for that reason, because we will not do anything to win.

PS Here is the information about the organization that created this hit piece from honorable citizen Maggie McCann...

These may represent the true special interests in this race.

The main funders of the effort are LGBT activist Bob Lehman and his patron, Eugene Heytow, a wealthy banker from Chicago who has a home in Rancho Santa Fe. Lehman has personally contributed $540 to Gloria’s campaign fund. They have each contributed $5,000 toward the mailer. Additionally, Thomas Sudberry, the President of Sudberry Properties, the developer of the recently approved Quarry Falls development, provided $1,000 for the mailer, ostensibly to support the position on two propositions. Thomas Sudberry, a registered City lobbyist, had previously donated $540 to the Todd Gloria Campaign. His wife, Jane Sudberry has also contributed the maximum amount of $540 to Gloria. Other registered City lobbyists who are employees of Sudberry Properties and who have contributed to Gloria’s campaign include Stephen Haase, $540, Jeffrey Bradley, $270, Marco Sessa, $540, and Colton Sudberry, $270. With the possible exception of Lehman, none of these people live in District 3.

The organization that was created to put out the campaign mailer, San Diego Voter Education Project, lists as its Treasurer registered City lobbyist Paola Avila. Mr. Avila personally contributed $540 to Todd Gloria’s campaign. One of Mr. Avila’s clients is Our Lady Of Peace parochial school; he serves as their Community Outreach specialist. Perhaps it is not a coincidence that Roxanne Govari is listed as a supporter of Stephen Whitburn in the hit piece mailer. Mr. Avila is not a resident of District 3.
