Escondido Police and Fire Communications Division received a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision on the Valley Center Grade. It appears the woman was walking down the Valley Center Grade in the westbound lane or on the shoulder. The woman was wearing dark clothing, and she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound down the Valley Center Grade.

The San Diego County Coroner responded to the scene and did not find identification on the deceased woman. Her identity is not known at this time and will be released by the Coroner’s Office when they discover who she is.

This case is on-going and headed by Officer Mike Nelson, Escocdido PD Traffic Division Collision Investigator. If anyone has information about this collision, they are asked to contact Officer Mike Nelson at 760-839-4407

Nelson states that it is also possible that others who may have witnessed the collision called 911 and did not reach a communications operator at the Escondido Police and Fire Communications or may have reached the California Highway Patrol or San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (the area is on the boundaries of the City of Escondido and cell calls may have been erroneusly transferred to those agencies. If that is the case and they have not spoken to anyone at the Escondido PD about what they saw, Officer Nelson would like to talk to them and get their statement.
