Officers responded to a call of a vehicular hit and run, according to a statement from the Chula Vista police department. An unidentified vehicle had struck a male victim, that the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office later identified as 22-year old Lara Mendez of San Diego.
Mendez was in the parking lot of nearby businesses when he was hit, and the suspect vehicle then fled the scene.
Mendez suffered major trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle has not been identified and police are now investigating the incident.
