San Diego Police Homicide detectives, with the assisstance of the Chula Vista PD and the Medical Examiner's Office, have identified the victim of the New Year's Eve muder in Golden Hills. Identification was verified through dental records.
She is Ahlyja Pinson, age 14.
On January 1, officers responded to a report of an injured female inside an abandoned house at 2915 E. Street. They found a deceased female inside; she seemed to be the victim of a gunshot wound, because of all the blood, but it has been determined she was stabbed and beaten serverely.
A homeless man had come across her when he went into the house. He left, borrowed a cell phone, and called it in. The vacant house has apparently been a "nuiscance," tucked away on a lot and usd by the homeless and others to party and take drugs. It has been reported that the structure is surrounded by trash and human feces.
The victim's parents, Jeffrey and Adriana Pinson, had recently moved back to San Diego and into a relative's home. They had lived in the Golden Hill area before, when Ahljya was in kintergarten. She later attended Correia Middle School in Ocean Beach.
Ahlyja left her aunt's 15th Street house around 2 p.m., December 31. She was going to meet a cousin and go to Seaport Village, but the cousin says she never showed up.
Instead, Ahlyja apparently went to a friend's home in Golden Hill and was last seen about 3:45 p.m., according to police investigators.
Homicide detectives state that whatever happened, Ahlyja put up a diligent fight for her life. Her head was badly wounded, which is why the police assumed at first that she had been shot.
The Medical Examiner's Office determined she died of multiple head and neck injuries, as well as being stabbed and beaten.
Ahlyja is San Diego's last homicide victim for 2007 and first major case for 2008.
