Sheriff’s Communications received a 911 call of shooting. Deputies and emergency personnel found 47-year-old James Michael Parker lying in the driveway of Highway 67 Truck Dismantlers, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Parker was transported by ambulance to Vigilante Road and Highway 67 to transfer him to Mercy Air, but soon after the helicopter’s arrival, Parker was pronounced dead.
It was initially believed that Parker was shot by an acquaintance, Kevin Royle, 46. Royle had been seen running from the scene after deputies responded the 911 call.
On December 30 at 3:22 p.m., an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent spotted Royle hitchhiking along Highway 67 in the Lakeside area. An uninvolved motorist picked up Royle and drove southbound on 67. The off-duty Border agent observed this and told Sheriff’s Communications.
Sheriffs stopped the vehicle and arrested Royle without incident. He was booked in county jail on one count of murder.
Apparently, Royle had ived for some time with Parker and Parker’s girlfriend in Lakeside. The motive for the murder has not yet been established.
