43-year-old Martha Lopez Perez was last seen on December 13, 2007, at approximately 2:50 p.m., at the AMVETS Thrift Store at 2085 Valley Parkway in Escondido.
She did not return home as expected. Her boyfriend, Anselmo Hernandez, 32, reported her missing.
A body discovered on February 8, 2008, has been identified as Martha Lopez Perez by the Medical Examiner’s Office on February 12. Her body was found by a mountain biker in a remote location of Jesmond Dene Park.
Her death is deemed suspicious. Her body was found with the same clothes she had on the day of her disappearance.
Perez was from Chiapas, Mexico, and had lived in the U.S. for sixteen years. She has a son, 14, and a daughter, 10, as well as two adult children who reside in Atlanta.
She made her living buying items from thrift stores and re-selling them at swap meets.
