Locations in San Marcos and Tijuana
Incident on December 18, 2004, at 12: 01 am; arrest on February 8, 2008
Magali Cabrera de Garcia of Vista has been arrested for conspiracy to commit murder, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Homicide Detail detective Benny Cruz.
The case – on December 18, 2004, San Marcos resident Noe Chavez Garcia was lured out his residence by Jose Antonio Lopez Tejeda amd Gerardo Matadamas Gomez. Jose contacted Noe and told him that he needed a ride to the Tijuana International Airport, claiming that one of his family members was dying and he needed to get to the airport and fly back home.
Once in Tijuana, Jose and directed Noe through some city streets. Noe started to get confused; he had no idea where he was. When he started to ask questions, both Jose and Gerardo told Noe to stop the car. There, they both shot the victim repeatedly.
The area is called, by Tijuana police, “Las Colas Del Matamoros” and also referred to as “El Fin del Mundo” or “The End of the World.” It is a zone of violent crime, where Mexican officials often find dead bodies dumped from drug cartel shootings and other criminal acts.
“The End of the World” is east of the Tijuana Airport.
But Jose managed to survive his attempted murder, and provided San Diego law enforcement crucial information. During the course of the investigation, Detective Benny Cruz learned that Jose’s wife, Magali, was having an extra-martial affair with Gerardo Gomez. The investigation has led to the arrest of Magali, on February 8, in Vista.
Cruz contends that Magali is the “master-mind in the execution-style shooting” of her husband.
She has been charged with attempted murder and conspiracy of murder. Jose and Gerardo have not yet been arrested.
