Mark Randolph Volger, 28, was patronizing the Lakeside Round Up Tavern. At some point in the evening, according to Lt. Dennis Brugos of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detail, Volger left the bar.
At about 10:35 p.m., several gunshots were heard in the vicinity of a Taco Bell, 50 yards east of the Lakeside Round Up. Witnesses reported seeing Volger running from the area of the Taco Bell, then collapsing in a parking lot at 12249 Woodside.
Deputies and paramedics arrived on the scene within two minutes. The victim was transported to the local hospital; he was pronounced dead at 12:08 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored two-door vehicle leaving the Taco Bell at a high rate of speed shortly after the two shots were fired. Two occupants of that vehicle were described as white males with shaved heads.
A motive for this killing has not been established.
