San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit detectives are investigating an armed carjacking in Chollas View that was followed by an officer-involved shooting in the Corridor neighborhood approximately an hour later.
At about 8:45 p.m, a male was parking his vehicle at an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Market Street when another male, armed with a gun, demanded the vehicle. It was a carjacking – the suspect is described as a black male, late 20s, 5’5”, 130 pounds, clean shaven, with prominent cheek bones. This suspect drove away with the vehicle.
At 9:48 p.m., Vice Unit detectives working the El Cajon Boulevard area noticed the carjack vehicle parked on the north sidewalk of 3200 Bramson Place. The vehicle was occupied by a black male and a female.
Detectives stopped to detain the suspects. The black male driver stepped out of the car and started to walk away. A detective identified himself and ordered the man to stop.
The man turned away from the detective and moved his hands to his waistband. Fearing the suspect was going to pull out his reported handgun, the detective fired at the suspect.
