Highway 94 and Barrett Smith Road, Dulzura October 26, 3:15 p.m. Sheriff’s Dept. 32.597172, -116.679590
A Border Patrol agent was driving westbound on Highway 94, looking north at a steep rocky hillside. Something caught his attention, something that did not look quite right. Investigating what it was, he found a charred body of a male wearing a backpack.
The area was once a migrant camp. It was now destroyed by the Harris fire. The area was checked and three more charred bodies were discovered. The area is near a major corridor for illegal immigrants; they walk hours, sometimes days, to cross into the United States from Mexico.
San Diego Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson unit and County Medical Examiner were called in to conduct an investigation.
It should be noted that if the Harris Fire is determined to be arson, any person arrested and convicted of the arson will be charged with four homicides.
