4300 Logan Avenue, Logan Heights Arrest on October 9, 2007, 5:00 p.m.; homicide on February 17, 2000 SDPD 32.696834, -117.102323
Officers from the State Preventative Police in Mexico arrested Emanuel Omar Maldonado in Tijuana for the cold case homicide of Lead Tadeo in San Diego.
“On February 17, 2000, Tadeo attended a small gathering of friends and acquaintances,” according to Lt. Manny Guaderrama. At some point, without provocation, Maldonado placed a shotgun to the back to Tadeo’s head and fired one shot. Both were 17 years old.
“The attack was completely unprovoked,” Guaderrama adds. “Tadeo had no knowledge she was about to be shot. She died at the scene.”
An arrest warrant was issued several days after this murder. Maldonado was nowhere to be located and it was believed he fled to Mexico.
The case was aired on “America’s Most Wanted” television program, resulting in a provisional warrant for Maldanado’s arrest in Mexico. Because Mexico does not adhere to the death penalty in murders, cooperation on murder cases between the U.S. and Mexico do not always go smoothly.
The suspect’s location was learned and Mexican authorities nabbed him.
He will be extradited to the U.S. and finally charged with Tadeo’s murder.
