Highway 8 and Escondido Avenue, Oceanside November 9, 8:16 a.m. California Highway Patrol 33.179459, -117.347518
William Hansen, 37, of Oceanside, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. There were no witnesses. California Highway Patrol began searching for the car that hit him, which they deduced to be a 2001-2003 silver Honda Civic, with a missing rearview mirror with further damage to the vehicle's right front end.
Hansen was standing beside his 2002 maroon Saturn 4-door when the car struck him Friday at 8:16 p.m. He was apparently putting gas in the car's tank when he was struck.
Hansen was pronounced dead at 8:27 p.m.
On Sunday, November 10, officers arrested Jessica Lynn Hawk, 23, of Carlsbad. Hawk was taken into custody after officers received a tip about a silver Honda Civic with damage to its right front fender, side window and mirror. A U.S. Marine who is a neighbor of Hawk's saw news reports and called Oceanside Police. Highway Patrol officers arrested Hawk at 6:32 p.m. She is charged with felony drunken driving, hit and run, gross vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment, because her 3-year-old son was in the car during the incident.
Hawk works as a bartender. She apparently admitted the night of the incident.
