An employee of the Economy Inn was checking a guest room and found the body of a male, 57, inside. Believing the male was dead, motel staff called the police and paramedics.
Paramedics confirmed the male’s death.
The state of the victim’s body made the death suspicious, so Homicide was called in to investigate. A search warrant was obtained to enter the room and examine the body.
The victim's car is missing. It is described as a black, 1999 Volkswagen Passat with California license plate number: 4DYZ009. Anyone who spots this vehicle is asked to call the SDPD or Crime Stoppers toll-free tip line at 888-580-TIPS, day or night. Rewards up to $1,000 are offered for information that leads to an arrest.
This is the second homicide case this year at the Economy Inn. On January 7, 2007, at 12:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to the motel. Multiple gunshots had been heard. In a second-floor room, they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim, 22-year-old David Ramos, was pronounced dead.
