2200 Maxson Street, Oceanside Homicide on November 9, 2006; arrest on December 10, 2007 Oceanside PD 33.199769, -117.359036
Dania Haros, 23, was arrested on suspicion of causing fatal injuries to Angelina Espalin, who died November 19, 2006. It is a case of first-degree murder. Angelina was 4-years-old and Haros’ foster daughter.
Angelina had suffered apparent head injuries and was unresponsive when Haros took the child to Tri-City Medical Center last year. She died that night. Oceanside Police have determined Angelina was injured in the family's home. Haros told detectives that Angelina had been hurt after refusing to go to bed.
Angelina's injuries were later determined to be inconsistent with Haros' explanation. The county medical examiner's office ruled Angelina's death as caused by blunt force head trauma – a casebook homicide that resulted in a year of investigating.
Haros was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of assaulting a child and first-degree murder. Her husband has been cleared of being involved with the crime.
