A Ford Ranger pickup had struck a 90-year-old man in an electric powered chair, or “scooter.”
Escondido Fire Department paramedics arrived and immediately began providing medical treatment to the injured man. The victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:58 p.m.
Witnesses and evidence at the scene indicate the man was in the crosswalk traveling eastbound across Escondido Boulevard. The Ford Ranger was making a left turn from westbound Valley Parkway. The Ford then struck the pedestrian. The 20-year-old driver was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
