Grand Avenue and Fairdale Avenue, Escondido November 24, 5:00 p.m. Escondido PD 33.132671, -117.05323
Police arrived on the accident scene and found a 17-year-old Hispanic female, Marlene Resendiz, lying on the roadway approximately 200 yards east of the collision site. Paramedics arrived and began medical treatment but Miranda was pronounced dead at 5:11 p.m.
Information from witnesses indicate Miranda was crossing Grand Avenue in the southbound direction from Fairdale. As she was crossing the street, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Grand in the number one traffic lane slowed, and Miranda continued crossing the street.
She was then immediately struck by a black or green four-door compact sedan traveling in the number two lane.
The driver of this black or dark green sedan did not have his lights on and according to some witnesses, may have been speeding. The driver failed to stop or render aid to the victim and continued driving eastbound with the victim still laying in front of the car.
The driver then slowed down and Miranda fell onto the roadway. The sedan then accelerated rapidly and fled the scene.
Based on antifreeze found at the crime scene, police believe the sedan has front-end damage, including impairment to the radiator, headlight, hood and windshield.
The incident is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Escondido Police at (760) 839-4930.
